Zhou ShuaiXun - An O level graduate of Year 2006, currently studying in NYP. He managed to score a B4 for his E. Maths. As his Maths foundation is poor, none of his hardwork he put in during Secondary 2-4 helped. Because of his weak foundation in Maths, he found a way to make the questions easier to understand.
He did not take any shortcuts during practice or exams. In fact, he did not just do what other students would do, to apply the methods taught by his teacher in the questions. He spent more time on each question than others trying to find an easier way to get the answer.
And because he finds methods to simplify different types of questions all the time, he get used to it and soon, it took him shorter time to find a solution.
His ability to break down problems helped him in solving many problems in life.
Wong Ding Jie - An O level graduate of Year 2006, currently studying in SRJC. He managed to score an A2 for both his E. Maths and A. Maths.
Given a strong foundation in Maths, he had no difficulty in solving problems during lessons and his results for class tests had never disappointed anyone. However, knowing the methods to solve problems, understanding them and manipulating them were different.
His exam results were shocking. Combining the use of different methods in one question is his greatest weakness at that time. The methods he was good in can only be applied when the questions are from one topic. But facing questions from different topics, he was stoned.
From his experience, he developed a skill of using his single methods which he is good in to set questions for himself. The logic he used to set his questions were simple, to combine a few topics together and see if it's similar to the ones the exams gave.
Once he understood how the questions were set, he could solve it. And the problem solving part was almost instantaneous. Because he set the questions in topic-by-topic format, he knew what topic and what method should come first and second.
He ability to build problems with similar experience helped in overcome many difficulties in life.
